Hi all,
Mat and I decided to get a MAC since everyone raved about them on my last computer post :)
We went to the Apple store at the Millenium Mall in Orlando this weekend and asked a bunch of questions about the upgradability of the Mac Mini (stand alone box) and the IMac (the one that has everything in the monitor). The Mac Mini starts off with 1G and can be upgraded only to 2G, whereas the IMac starts off at 1G and can be upgraded to 3G. We looked at the notebooks too, which are very nice.
Well, I have decided on a MAC for sure. Now I just have decide on laptop or desktop.
More later...
Kathryn :)

Hi, Kathryn:
Why do not consider buying your computer online? It should be cheaper than the store. But it also depends, because user can't see the product before he/she get it, so just a suggestion, good luck on that! By the way, thanks for your post on our presentation:)

I agree that you should consider buying your computer online, but I can also tell you from experience (my girlfriend bought her iBook G4 a year ago at a retail store in Atlanta, GA) that you can indeed buy a MAC with the properly discountd price in the retail stores. Simply have your UF ID (Gator1 Card) and present it to the clerk with the explanation that you are a Faculty/Student/Staff member at the University of Florida. It took a little bit longer to fill out the necessary information, but we did received the correct pricing and everything else she was entitled to.
I would definitely say the new MacBook and MacBookPros are amazing machines, and having worked on them both with my previous job, I don't think there is a bad choice. Biggest considerations I have found with laptops/notebooks are weight and battery life. Memory upgrades are another important factor of course, but as long as any MAC you buy can accept a total of 2GB (gigabytes) of RAM or more, you should be set for at least 2-3 years, if not beyond (from my experience at least).
Hope this helps, and I can't wait to find out what you decide to purchase.
Bryan
